The Combat Blog!

Hello!

Finally, we return with the weekly blogs after The Great Hiatus - and this week is all about combat! Please keep in mind that nothing in this blog is absolutely final and will almost certainly change on release through playtesting and feedback. It's still a baby concept! This blog will be about the Melee combat, as ranged is not exactly the most interesting thing to talk about and magic doesn't exist yet (but is planned!)

I would also just like to, before the blog begins, apologise for the low quality of gifs in this blog! I still have no home internet, so my connection is limited by my phone contract - and I didn't want to absorb my limited data with high quality gifs!

So, let's begin by introducing you to the main Melee weapons!

Weapons

There are two main types of weapons in Landraisers - Slash weapons and Stab weapons. Slash weapons are much faster than spears, but have less range than Stab weapons. They are about equal in damage. Due to the differences in range and speed, Stab weapons are much easier to use but the potAential damage output of Slash weapons when used skillfully are unrivaled!

Shields!

Shields in Landraisers are quite simple - they don't really exist! There are no shield items in the game. However, this doesn't mean you are undefended in battle! When equipped with a Melee weapon, Right-Clicking will produce a shield. (There are some exceptions to this, as special weapons can have different effects attached to Right-Click - meaning they sacrifice the shield in return for powerful alternative attacks!)

As you can see, the shield does not stay locked to the player. You are free to move around when the shield is out! You can only have one shield out at a time, and there is a small cooldown to prevent mashing. It comes out near enough instantly upon click, making it easier to time your shield against some big swings!

In addition to blocking hits from enemies, the shield also blocks the enemies themselves! Enemies cannot move through your shields, allowing you to do defensive motions such as placing a shield, stepping back, then attacking through it with your weapon!

This also means that if enemies are flanking you from multiple angles, you can defend your back/sides with a shield while charging forward at the enemy in-front of you!

Conclusion

All-in-all, Landraisers has a fairly unique combat system that will only get more complex and interesting as time goes on. Soon there'll be magic spells and traps, Masks that give you special abilities and properties, and when Multiplayer arrives you'll be able to fight either alongside or against your friends for glory!

Speaking of glory, in my quest for fame and fortune it'd be real nice if you could give me a follow on Twitter, it'd be very nice to see you there!

That's all for this week - thanks for reading!
