Bits and bobs and odds and sods
This weeks blog post will be a bit of a mish-mash of little features added to the game as well as being a little on the shorter side as we gear up (no pun intended) to talk about tools, weapons and combat next week!
Dungeon Alterations!
After showing off dungeons last week, I've been making a few more changes to them to improve how they play!
- Tiles next to the void now look as if they have a bit more depth to them
- Stagnant and dirty water adds another element to the dungeons - these tiles cannot be walked on so act as walls, but you can poke spears and shoot arrows over top!
- A fog of war now covers the dungeon and is revealed as you explore - this is to aid the feeling of darkness and claustrophobia and also forces you to go searching hard for every last chest (if you want to find the most loot!)
- Added chests with a variety of useful tools, materials, and food. Might even find some precious metals and gems in there!
- Changed up the generation a little bit to improve interest - Dungeons are now more compact and have more rooms
Fires Ablaze!
It was inevitable that I would add fire at some point - I actually planned it ages ago but never bothered to add it - it's just something that every game needs more of! Fires in Landraisers can be started in many ways, including manually lighting them, lightning strikes and fire attacks from enemies!
Flammable objects and tiles will help spread the flames, and when a fire burns out a flammable tile it leaves an Ash tile behind it! This can be harvested to give charcoal, or it will slowly turn back to dirt over time (with the help of adjacent dirt!)
Players and creatures are damaged by fire, but contrary to many games there is no "on fire" state for entities. You simply take damage while standing on the fire and that's all!
Tiers of Joy
All items now have a "Tier" which relates to how rare the item is and how difficult it is to create/find. They are the following colours, with the least rare being the top (white) and the rarest being the bottom (gold)
Anyway, that'll be all for this week because next week's blog post is going to be a special one! Finally getting to show off the work I've been doing on combat and I hope you'll all be there to see it. If you want to be reminded of when these go live then why aren't you following me on Twitter yet?? Get on it!
Thanks for reading!
